On Monday, May 15, 2017, some Fork Seniors boarded the church bus at 7:30 A.M. for a trip to Shatley Springs for breakfast. Only 12 Fork Seniors were able to go. The sign-up sheet listed 23 who planned to go, however, due to sickness and unexpected circumstances, only 12 actually went.
Shatley Springs is an old restaurant located in Crumpler, NC. They serve family style food (if you want it) and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. The food served was: country ham, sausage, bacon, eggs, gravy, potato wedges, fried apples, biscuits and homemade strawberry jelly and apple butter. It took two hours to get there, but it was worth the wait. There is a natural spring located there and they have it fixed so you can get a jug to take with you if you bring your own jug. The water is supposed to have healing powers! Wilson Merrell was the only one who brought a jug but several of us got a cup of the water to drink. On the way back home we stopped at Howard's Strawberry stand and most everyone purchased fresh strawberries and other produce. We arrived back at the church around 2:00 P.M. We all appreciated Dallas Jones for driving the bus for us. -Nancy Ward, Seniors Coordinator
