-Nancy Ward, Seniors Coordinator
On Tuesday, November 14th, about 35 seniors met in the church fellowship hall for our Thanksgiving lunch. Our meal consisted of: chicken pie, mashed potatoes, green beans & corn, yams, slaw, deviled eggs, pickled beets, cranberry salad and cranberry sauce and homemade rolls (made by Jean Livengood). Desserts were pumpkin pie, homemade apple pie (by Joyce Jones) and peach cobbler. Our group was entertained by “Annabelle” who showed up in all her make-up and granny attire to tell us about her boyfriend and going to the train station. Ava Foster Charles was Annabelle and everyone enjoyed the laughs she brought us. She was accompanied by her husband, Quinten and they stayed and visited with us and ate lunch with us. Robert had devotions and the blessing before we ate. Betty Graham won the door prize of a $10 Walmart gift card & candy. The seniors collected canned goods and non perisable items today to be taken to the StoreHouse for Jesus later on. We are still collecting plastic shopping bags for the StoreHouse to use when handing out items to clients. This has been a very successful project and is very appreciated by all the workers at the Storehouse. If they don’t have bags to use, they have to buy them, so this saves them $$ and gives us an easy project to work at. Our next and final meeting for 2017 will be on Monday, December 4. We will take the bus to Mrs. Hanes’ Cookie Factory in Clemmons to watch the cookies being made and shop for cookies. After we finish shopping, we will board the bus and head to the Cracker Barrel Restaurant for lunch.
